When should a room or apartment be converted? What makes the investment worth it?

[A remodel should be pursued for] just basically obsolete items, fixtures, lights, plumbing fixtures, floors. … If you are comfortable with it, the value lies in it.

What mistakes do homeowners make when planning a remodel? How can homeowners best prepare?

One of the problems is hiring the wrong contractor and then not doing enough research. They put some kind of tile down and a few months later they go back to Home Depot or something and say, “Oh, I really wish I had chosen this one instead.” Do some research and really come down to it and spend that time figuring out exactly what the homeowner wants.

In which inexpensive renovation projects can people invest?

For a kitchen, you can replace your plumbing fixtures and lights. These are always pretty simple things that can have a good effect.

If you need to recommend a room or remodeling project to add value to a home, what would it be and why?

The bathroom because there is a lot going on in the bathroom and I have a feeling that when people are looking at a new home and you have fresh granite countertops in the bathroom and beautiful tiles that is going to appeal to the buyer right there.
