The BJP accused the Delhi government on Tuesday of wreaking havoc in the capital on behalf of a plan to clean septic tanks.
Opposition leader in Delhi Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a program of free septic tank cleaning in 2019 and banned private contractors from providing the service.
The prime minister’s announcement has not been implemented and people are now unable to do the required cleaning by private contractors, posing a “serious threat” to the health of around 50 lakhs in the capital, Bidhuri said.
“After the announcement, cleaning by private contractors was banned. But surprisingly, this announcement turned out to be just an election promise. This program started some time after the announcement that it would take advantage of the elections, but everything stalled after that, ”said Bidhuri.
“Septic tanks haven’t been cleaned for months. Because of this, people’s lives – especially in unauthorized colonies and villages – are turning into hell. People are upset because they cannot clean the septic tanks for several months. The Jal board doesn’t listen to people’s complaints, ”he added.
