Animation Collaboration: TAG Heuer Partners with Nintendo for the Connected x Super Mario | WatchTime

Swiss watchmaker this week Day, this year complements its popular smartwatch series and at the same time introduces its latest brand partnership. The new Connected x Super Mario is TAG Heuer’s first collaboration with Nintendo, Creator of the iconic video game character of the same name, and the clock at its core represents a playful version of the flagship of the “intelligent” clock from TAG. Since the Connected models are most often used for training, the Super Mario character – most often depicted running and jumping to save Princess Peach from the clutches of the Evil Bowser – seems a natural fit to the gamification -Achieve the watchmaker’s goals.

As far as the case is concerned, the watch retains the familiar design features of its predecessors: Specifically, it is based on the silhouette of the standard mechanical Carrera from TAG Heuer, 45 mm in diameter and 13.5 mm thick in steel, with sharply faceted angles, elongated Lugs and a black ceramic bezel that contrasts the otherwise metallic look. On closer inspection, one recognizes the unique color scheme of the watch, its red accents, which are derived from the name “Super Mario”, as well as the Mario signature iconography on the lacquered bezel with mushroom, pipe and star, which occupy three of the four quarters of an hour Positions.

The Connected x Super Mario offers essentially the same features as previous versions of the Connected, including an interactive display, a full day of battery life, fast charging, and various sensors such as a heart rate monitor, compass, accelerometer, and other metrics, as well as recorded activities. These sensors in combination with the smartphone connectivity help to provide data for the various apps and options of the watch, which ensure that the wearer leads a life that is as digitally connected as possible.

Unique to this version of the Connected Watch is of course the characteristic red and blue Super Mario skin, which offers a playful coolness factor and at the same time gives the watch additional gamification: During the course of the day, Super Mario comes to life on the watch’s display the wearer achieves his various activity goals – from an animated cap tip when the Connected is placed on the wrist to the famous slide of the figure on the flagpole when 100 percent of a goal is achieved.

The fact that Super Mario was chosen for this collaborative piece over other popular Nintendo characters like Pokémon’s Pikachu is likely an indication of the watch’s core audience of potential consumers. While Mario first appeared in 1985 and is recognizable and appreciated by most age groups, Pokémon wasn’t introduced until 1998, with its fan base likely being a bit younger – and therefore less likely to be able to afford a luxury smartwatch worth more than $ 2,000 would.

The Super Mario watch face will be pre-installed on the limited edition Connected x Super Mario watches; TAG Heuer has announced that the digital interface will also be available on regular connected models at a later date. The watch is limited to 2,000 pieces, priced at $ 2,150, and is available starting today, July 15, 2021.
