Cambria prison in line for water heater tank, HVAC work | Local News

EBENSBURG – Cambria County’s Prison Committee received updated updates on equipment and projects at the prison during its monthly meeting on Wednesday.

One of the hot water tanks that was part of the 2018 replacement project failed.

First Assistant Warden Bill Patterson said that although the tank was replaced in 2018, it came with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty based on the “build date” which was March, but that prison officials could speak to the company as permits for the tanks to go first in December 2018.

Patterson said the replacement would have cost about $ 18,000, but instead it will cost $ 3,000 to install since the replacement is covered.

He added that maintenance personnel are inspecting the other tanks that were installed at the same time as the tank, who were unsure that there will be no more problems in the near future.

According to Patterson, it looks like “something has eaten the bottom of the tank.”

Prison officials are also working on the prison’s underground gas tank for its generator.

Patterson stated that due to its age, the tank needs to be upgraded and although the tank is in good condition, items like gauges and alarms need to be upgraded.

The board also received an update on the HVAC project in the HF unit, which was added in 2007. The project was awarded a prize of $ 300,220 to Marc Services and will be installed at ground level outside the building rather than inside the current system. The new system will also be a natural gas system instead of oil.

“This can save the county another cost,” said Patterson, given the cost of natural gas and oil.

“It will also improve the air quality in this unit.”

The project is scheduled to begin as soon as the equipment arrives.
