Can You Take A Shower While Wearing AirPods?

Standard AirPods and AirPods Pro may differ in terms of water resistance, but showering with either wireless earbud is not a good idea.

AppleThe AirPods are waterproof depending on the model, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good idea to wear them while showering. When it comes to water-resistant products, there are still some limitations. Knowing the specific limits for AirPods can help ensure that the wireless earbuds will work for as long as possible.

Apple offers more than one type of AirPods. The most obvious difference is between the earbuds and the over-ear AirPods Max headphones. However, the difference between the two types of earbuds – Standard and Pro – is more subtle. The standard AirPods and AirPods Pro differ slightly in design, but also in their functions. The premium version offers better protection from the elements as well as active noise cancellation.

When it comes to water, only the AirPods Pro are durable. The standard AirPods (whether first or second generation) do not offer any protection against water. Although the AirPods Pro are waterproof, they are not waterproof. In fact, thinking of the premium earbuds as splashproof is far better than actually being waterproof. Also, as Apple explains, users shouldn’t assume that water resistance will always stay the same, but rather expect that protection will likely decrease over time.

Airpods waterproof

As you’d expect, the standard first and second generation AirPods with no water resistance shouldn’t be used in the shower at all. Despite the improved protection, Apple recommends not wearing AirPods Pro in the shower either. The reason for this is the water resistance offered. AirPods Pro can withstand rain or intensive training without any problems, but are not designed for use under running water. This not only includes kitchen and bathroom fittings, but also shower heads. For the same reason, AirPods Pro shouldn’t be used while swimming or in any other situation where water levels could prove to be an issue.

In addition to the fact that AirPods Pro may not survive water leaking from the shower head, it is highly recommended that they not come in direct contact with other liquids commonly found in the bathroom, such as liquid soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. In fact, there may also be instances where problems related to water may arise even without direct contact with water. For example, Apple also recommends avoiding the use of AirPods Pro in the sauna or steam room. All of this makes it pretty clear that AirPods wearers (Pro or other) should likely be playing music through their bluetooth speaker while showering.
