Chandigarh: Water pipe bursts, Sector 44 park flooded | Chandigarh News

CHANDIGARH: Residents of Sector 44, Chandigarh, were in a state after the tertiary water supply in the Garden of Annuals burst early Saturday morning. Since there was no more space left for morning hikers, a foul smell also poured out of the accumulated water in the park. The entrance to the park was submerged and water also poured onto the street.
Karanvir Singh, a local resident, said, “When I got to my morning run, one side of the park was submerged. There was also a foul odor from the dirty water. ”
Not only the morning hikers were affected, people in the nearby houses also complained of a foul smell in the area.
“Even though we live closer to the green belt, we still have to face such a state of affairs. The authorities concerned should ensure that such an incident never happens again, ”said a woman, who asked for anonymity.
At the gathering, residents said this is not the first time water has pooled as it is a common sight both in this park and in the park in front of it, which is across the street from Sector 44D .
“We have filed multiple complaints with the city administration, but nothing has been done to resolve the issue,” said Sudarshan Joshi, president of the resident Sector 44 charity.
Local residents said the authorities needed to find a permanent solution to this problem.
Chief Engineer Shailender Singh said, “There was a leak in the tertiary water supply. We have interrupted the water supply for the time being and the repair work will start on Sunday. ”
