JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville City Council on Tuesday approved more than $ 26 million for a needy neighborhood.

The phasing out program for septic tanks in the neighborhood of Christobel was overdue. The council voted on the money from the general fund and JEA.

The project would fulfill a promise made 60 years ago during the consolidation to connect neighborhoods with sewers. and replace septic tanks.

Under the plan, the city will provide $ 14.3 million and JEA will raise an additional $ 12.5 million to complete the 2016 septic tank exit project in the Biltmore, Beverly Hills and Christobel neighborhoods.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry said his office was working to raise an additional $ 6 million from lawmakers for the septic tank project.
