LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WKBT) – The town of La Crosse is a reminder to residents to keep an eye on their bathroom facilities, especially after long sub-zero temperatures.

Water pipes that run into your house faucets from the municipal supply can freeze and crack.

One way to avoid these problems is to run water from a cold faucet for about five minutes two or three times a day.

There are other ways a homeowner can avoid a problem.

“Heat your house, insulate wherever possible and where it cannot store the heat; If you use a heat tape, you’ll know where your shut-off valves are, ”said Tina Erickson, director of utility billing and customer support for the city of La Crosse.

You can contact the city of La Crosse water company if you suspect any problems with your water supply.

City residents are also asked to keep an eye on fire hydrants to make sure they are free of snow.
