County residents offered $2,500 in rebates to install all-electric heat pump water heaters

San Mateo County residents who replace their methane gas water heater on their properties with all-electric heat pump water heaters on their properties can enjoy discounts of at least $ 2,500.

By replacing any size methane gas water heater, you will receive a $ 1,500 discount from Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) and an additional $ 1,000 discount from the BayREN Home + program. PCE is offering additional discounts of up to $ 1,500 for panel upgrades if required to operate the new water heater, and an additional $ 1,000 for income-qualified residents who are on the CARE or Family Electric plans Rate Assistance (FERA) in California.

“Discounts are granted for heat pump water heaters that are installed by participating BayREN contract partners on or after January 1st of this year,” said PCE.

Domestic water heating “accounts for more than a quarter of methane gas emissions from buildings in San Mateo County,” according to PCE.

“Methane is one of the most powerful pollutants in causing devastating climate change, and domestic hot water is a major culprit in creating those emissions,” said Jan Pepper, CEO of Peninsula Clean Energy. “These discounts, coupled with zero-emission electricity made available to all of our customers, should have a significant impact on solving this problem in our communities.”
