Frederick, MD (KB), State Highway Administration spokeswoman Sherry Christian, said a repair project will be held this weekend on Maryland 355 (Urbana Pike) to repair drainage pipes damaged during recent floods.

“On Maryland 355 in either direction, between Thornapple Drive / Campus Drive and Doctor Perry Road / Big Woods Road,” she said. “They’re going to shut this down so they can fix these pipes.”

Christian said that in order to repair the pipes, the workers would have to remove the guardrail, so the road would have to be closed.

She said the project is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. on Friday, October 15, and last through the weekend through October 18, at 5 a.m.

“We really expect the weather forecast to hold for this weekend – a little rain is okay, but we hope that this will be done in two days,” said Christian. “Our crews will start work right away and work around the clock until the job is done.”

Christian said alternative routes will be available for MD 355 travelers heading north and south.

-Traffic north on MD 355 will be diverted south onto MD 109 (Old Hundred Road) to I-270 north, then north on MD 80 (Fingerboard Road) to onto MD 355 to get.

-The traffic on the MD 355 going south will be diverted onto the MD 80 (Fingerboard Road) south to I-270, then onto the MD 109 north to get onto the MD 355.

“As a reminder, drivers should, as always, slow down when they approach a work area, pay attention to the surroundings and comply with the posted speed limit for the work area in order to protect themselves and our crews,” explained Christian.

She said more information about the drainpipes can be found on the project portal page on the website https://roads.maryland.gov/pages/home.aspx.
