Drivers warned of closures on South Monroe Street due to pipe replacement project

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – Part of South Monroe Street will be closed to traffic over the coming weekends due to a sewer replacement project.

The city of Tallahassee announced on Friday that road closures are planned along South Monroe Street to replace about 500 feet of sewer under the road.

South Monroe Street between East and West Polk Drives will be closed to traffic on the weekends of October 3rd and 10th from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Monday.

During these closings, traffic will be diverted to South Adams Street, Orange Avenue and Magnolia Drive, according to the city. Detours are clearly marked.

“Access to companies within the work zone will be maintained at all times, and additional signage will be installed to give motorists clear directions on the most convenient way to access these companies,” the city wrote in a press release.

They say construction of this project precedes the Florida Department of Transportation’s South Monroe Street Resurfacing Project, which is slated for early 2021.
