Engineers still battling to fix burst pipe which left Clanfield left without water on the hottest day of the year so far

The leak started this morning but it is taking “longer than usual” to fix, a Portsmouth Water spokesman said.

This incident dismayed Butser Ancient Farm, which was forced to cancel all of its weekend parties – including demonstrations by medieval reenactors.

Dozens of visitors have been turned away from the farm after it lost all water supplies this morning.

In a message on the attraction’s Facebook page, a spokesman said: “Due to a water pipe break in Clanfield, we have absolutely no water on site.

‘Unfortunately we have to close the site for health and safety reasons as we need water for our toilet and hand washing facilities on site.

“We are so disappointed that it was going to be a great day and in due course we will get in touch with everyone who has booked tickets. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. ‘

The lack of water supply is believed to have affected Queen Elizabeth Country Park as well, as the toilets remain without running water.

Portsmouth Water teams said this morning they had identified the cause of the leak.

But a company spokesman said, “The supply is still being restored. The restoration of all supplies takes longer than usual due to the significant demand in the network.

“The supply will be restored as soon as possible. We have a crew on site to repair the main line as well. ‘
