An evacuation order has been issued for residents of the central north coast of New South Wales amid fears of fecal matter on the streets.
The Local Emergency Operations Controller (LEOCON) issued the order on Friday around 9:30 p.m. due to the risk to public health.
The on-site sewer systems discharged into courtyards and streets in the midst of flooding at Stuarts Point, about 45 km north of Kempsey.

The evacuation order affects at least 45 houses.
“NSW Heath has confirmed that the discharge poses a risk to feces and bacteria, creating a risk to the public health of anyone who may come into contact with the water,” police said in a statement.
“Based on the identified public health risk, LEOCON, which is managing the flood situation in Kempsey, has identified a hazardous area and issued an evacuation order under Section 60L of the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act.”
Ocean, First, Second, Third, Fifth, Seventh, and Ninth Avenues were declared in the zone on Friday night.
New South Wales police said authorities are helping locals evacuate to a nearby youth camp in Yarrahapinni.

“Ambulance services will be knocking on the door in the area and residents will be screened for signs or symptoms of illness by NSW Health staff prior to admission to the evacuation center,” the statement said.
Residents who organize private accommodation must still be assessed at the evacuation center.
Vehicles in the affected water are detained.
Residents have been warned that the evacuation order could take anywhere from seven to ten days, but the situation is being assessed on a daily basis.
