BENMILLER – A new sewage system at the campsite just outside of Goderich will include direct wastewater discharge to 56 campsites, eliminating unloading before departure, and an improved, state-of-the-art, more central unloading station for the rest of the year, the trailer sites.
Maitland Conservation (MC) has appointed Sid Bruinsma Excavating Ltd. awarded the contract for the on-site sewage system project of the Reserve Conservation Area (FRCA) case, including the decommissioning of the three current sewage systems, at the virtual general meeting on July 28th.
Park Superintendent Jason Moir presented the report, including conceptual design diagrams, to members.
Following a review of FRCA operations in 2016, staff were asked to find ways to cut operating costs so they could continue to operate the campsite based solely on the revenues generated by the park, and to build their reserve accounts to complete the necessary projects that were identified in an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIS) report.
“The EIS report highlighted the need to shut down two existing wastewater treatment plants at FRCA and build a new wastewater treatment plant based on a technical design and approved by the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Parks (MECP),” it said in the report.
The accumulated surplus in the accounts at the end of 2020 was $ 435,560.
Based on the current 2021 camping season and the revenue collected so far, FRCA predicts an additional surplus of at least $ 200,000 by the end of 2021.
The report showed that employees expect much higher net income and are confident that this income will “allow the project to be completed in full without using up the accumulated surplus for the Falls Reserve”.
A call for proposals was published on bidsandtenders.ca on June 14, and the FRCA held an on-site meeting with eight interested contractors on July 23.
Three addenda were added after the meeting to address some of the issues raised by the contractors.
These additional surcharges concerned the provision of a worker for additional work, if and when requested by the engineer, provision of an electrician or pipe fitter or craftsman for any additional work, if and when requested by the engineer, unit costs per running meter an additional length of 50 mm PE- Supply and install power line including trenching and excavation work, bedding, backfilling and restoration, test wire, etc. at a price per meter, unit cost, per linear meter delivery and installation of an additional length of 100mm PVC slope sewer including trenching and excavation work , Bedding, backfilling and restoration, test wire, etc. at a price per meter and unit cost per running meter to supply and install an additional length of 150mm PVC slope sewer including trenching and excavation, bedding, backfilling and restoration, test wire etc. per meter.
Members approved the contract for $ 507,911 plus HST. In addition, they included two preliminary items, $ 18,161 plus HST for site restoration and $ 99,674 plus HST for connecting sewer services at 56 campsites. The total cost is $ 625,746.
