Exclusive: Nursing home workers may need to sign new contracts to receive mandatory Covid vaccines

Hundreds of thousands of nursing home workers may have to sign new contracts to force them to get the Covid bump, ministers have admitted. Ministers are concerned that only around two-thirds of nursing home workers have agreed to receive a bump. Last week, The Telegraph announced that nursing home workers could be legally required to receive a vaccine as part of a historic change in law. An announcement from Boris Johnson could come as early as next week. Ministers feel compelled to act on alarm given the low intake of vaccines among staff in nursing homes where many of the people most at risk from Covid live. Only around a quarter of nursing homes in London and half in some parts of England have reached staff and resident vaccination levels that government scientists have found safe.
