Fleming College introduces new plumber apprenticeship program

PETERBOROUGH, ONT. – Fleming College has a new plumber apprenticeship program in the Peterborough-Kawartha area that allows those interested to pursue a career as a plumber, pipe fitter, contractor or supervisor in a residential, commercial or industrial setting.

The program comprises three school hours of 240 hours each, as well as work experience. In the basic session, students learn about tools and piping methods, plumbing systems, workplace safety, upgrading, and lifting and welding. In the intermediate session, students are trained in plumbing systems, drain pipes, and commercial calculations and documentation. Advanced will help students deepen and expand their skills learned through in-depth training in plumbing systems, process control systems, and commercial documentation.

Training for the program takes place at the Kawartha Trades and Technology Center and is led by instructors who are fully qualified artisans and experts in the field and who have connections with local artisans and organizations.

As this is an apprenticeship program, eligibility is determined by the Ministry of Labor, Training and Skills Development. The press release states that applicants must be registered with the ministry as apprentices, which also includes funding from an eligible employer.
