Frank DiMaria has fixed many leaks in the 35 years his Mr. Plumber has been in the business – and he hopes to fix a lot more.

The growing business of DiMaria nearly triples its area in Tonawanda, as not only the increasing demand for plumbing and sealing services, but also a planned expansion to Rochester is to be taken into account.

DiMaria, 53, purchases 5.65 acres on Military Road with a 56,820 square foot industrial manufacturing and distribution facility. The building used to be the Wendt Corp. Technology Center.

The long-awaited deal is expected to close in the next few weeks, DiMaria said, without revealing the price.

“I really hope so,” he joked. “It takes forever.”

He said he plans to move his businesses – Frank’s Mr. Plumber and Frank’s Basement Systems – from their current long-standing home on Pearce Ave. 70 and 90 to be relocated in Tonawanda, where the companies occupy 20,000 square meters of space under “extremely cramped” conditions.

Moving to the military in 2080 will leave more space for its offices, equipment, and trucks. The companies employ 125 people, although all but about 20 administrative staff are typically out and about to do work.

He also plans to set up a training facility to teach the plumbing and basement waterproofing industry with the goal of hiring 50 to 60 new employees as he plans to expand into the Rochester market next spring. He said he could offer free education to others, although he would require all students to stay with his company for at least six months before going out alone.
