The weekend rain left a family without a working stove or hot water.

Almost three inches of rain fell on the Quad Cities over the weekend. Rachel McHugh and her husband returned to their Milan home after the rain and found their basement flooded.

A fun evening turned into a disaster when Rachel McHugh and her husband got home.

“We got home and our alarm goes off, we get to the stairs right there and we’re shooting like oh,” she said.

McHugh’s basement was flooded and the water level was higher than the first two steps.

“The water was everywhere, things were swimming.”

This meant that water had to be pumped out for a few days.

“My husband had to go to the store just to get extra things to make it into the ditch out there,” she said.

Getting the water out was exhausting, but the damage caused by the flooding added to the insult to the injury.

“My husband took all the water out to find out our oven was ready. It’s shot. It’s roasted, ”she said. “Our water heater obviously had a fire or a shortage so we don’t have hot water.”

With temperatures well into your 30s for the next few nights, not having a working oven can become dangerous.

“We are on our way and have a 15-year-old child who lives here,” she said.

McHugh is still waiting for the company they are hiring from to fix some of the issues.
