Successful test in May 2021 leads to major project to prioritize repairs and identify entry points for unwanted infiltration

LONDON, ENGLAND, August 2, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – Electro Scan (UK) Ltd. announced today that work has commenced on a 60,000 foot (18.2 km) sewer inspection project for the Government of Jersey, Channel Islands.

Awarded after a successful test in May 2021, Electro Scan (UK) Ltd. previously examined clay, concrete and cured pipes (CIPP) for leaks that were either not found or recorded by older CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of August 2021 and is managed by the Department of Infrastructure, Housing & Environment, Operations & Transport in collaboration with Ivan Jackson, Drainage Design, Graeme Le Monnier, Manager of Network Operations, Ed Verrechio. Supervised, Operations Manager – Network and Compliance, and Andy Downie, Senior Civil Engineer.

“We are very excited to be back in the Channel Islands,” said Brad Weston, Director, Electro Scan (UK) Ltd. “And we are pleased to have our newest member of the Electro Scan team, Chris Fisher, with us to be certified for both our van-based ES-600 and mobile ES equipment, as well as road and field inspections in Jersey carry out.”

The population of Jersey is nearly 110,000, spread over 45.6 square miles (118.2 km2) of land, or about 0.7 times the size of Washington, DC

Jersey is not part of the United Kingdom (UK) or the European Union (EU) and is a separate possession of the Crown known as the British Isles, like the Isle of Man.

While high-definition CCTV cameras have traditionally inspected sewer and stormwater pipes for defects, their inability to determine if cracks are going through the pipe walls, assess whether joints are watertight, or certify CIPP-lined pipes as watertight has led to smarter utilities Electro. introduce scan technology for unambiguous and impartial leak detection and certification of repairs are leak-free.

Electro Scan’s machine-intelligent, non-acoustic, non-visual technology is independent of water levels in pipes, grease, tides, groundwater conditions, noise, mud or visual obstacles. Instead, it automatically geocodes and measures all the paths that water can take in and out of a pipe.

Recently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been shown to help overcome subjective manual CCTV coding and reporting errors.

Unfortunately, AI programs use the same frame-by-frame video files produced by the most advanced cameras, which have the same latent drawbacks as manually based CCTV, resulting in false health assessment reports.

As a result, newer technology was required from Electro Scan to correctly assess the structural integrity and watertightness of underground pipes.

Electro Scan (UK) Ltd. was founded in 2014 and is headquartered in Covent Gardens, London, and opened its first UK Electro Scan Service Center at Unit 15 Kembrey Trade Center, Aspen Close, Swindon SN2 8AJ earlier this year.

Jersey is the largest and southernmost of the British Channel Islands, at altitudes from sea level to 143 meters above sea level.

Jersey recorded its highest tide on October 10, 2008 at 12.3 meters (40.45 feet), with Super Tides sometimes lasting up to five (5) consecutive days and routinely reaching 11 meters (36 feet).

In comparison, the Bay of Fundy on the Atlantic coast of North America between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and the US state of Maine is known for having the highest tidal range in the world at 14.5 meters (47.5 ft). .

In May 2021, Electro Scan ran a series of parallel benchmarks comparing the Focused Electrode Leak Location (FELL) and CCTV video inspections by Electro Scan.

In either case, CCTV was unable to locate or quantify any leaks, while FELL automatically identified hundreds of missed leaks at pipe wall cracks, joints and service connections.

Electro Scan’s study, which provides actionable data for prioritizing repairs and refurbishments, found that defects in 12 of 34 pipes examined accounted for eighty percent (80%) of the total defect flow.

Results were available within minutes of each scan using Electro Scan’s CriticalSewers® cloud application; then displayed in Innovyze® InfoAsset® Planner via the jointly developed Application Programming Interface (API) for additional business analyzes and risk assessments.

In addition, Electro Scan was able to test the watertightness of a CIPP sewer rehabilitation and confirm the successful lining work of Jersey.
