Homes flooded and hundreds without water after pipe bursts in Grangemouth

Hundreds of houses were left without water in Grangemouth last night after a 14-inch main pipe burst.

Around 420 lots had to be cut when roads turned into rivers, sparking a frantic operation by locals to rescue their belongings.

Shortly after 8 p.m., firefighters were also called to the scene on Forth Clyde Way and Dalgrain Road in Grangemouth.

An investigation has now begun as engineers try to pinpoint the cause of the outbreak.

A spokesman for Scottish Water said: “We are currently dealing with a ruptured water pipe in Grangemouth.

“A team is working on-site to repair the 14-inch water line on Dalgrain Road, which is affecting the supply of around 420 properties.

“Tankers are in operation to maintain the water supply to the affected customers.

“At least one property has been flooded from the outside and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is on hand to provide assistance.

“Some traffic management may be required so that excavations and repairs can be carried out as quickly and safely as possible.

“Scottish Water would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.”
