Homes with lead pipes in certain areas of Wexford town advised to let water run

Residents in certain areas of Wexford town that still have lead pipes have been advised to let the water flow for 20 minutes before drinking it, according to a local council.

llr John Hegarty said residents of Spawell Road and Glena Terrace had been informed that lead pipes in the area could not be replaced until funds were available.

“Local residents were advised to let the water flow for 20 minutes before drinking it. Is there something here that is affecting people’s health, ”he asked.

District Engineer Sean Kavanagh said he would refer the matter to the water supply department.

“I believe the lead pipe replacement program was suspended in 2018 for financial reasons,” he said.
