Interior design expert Benji Lewis told FEMAIL that the bathroom has “never been hotter”.

“Often seen as the space that deserves a minimum of attention – both in terms of design and budget – if ever there was a room that was given serious thought, it was the bathroom.

“When it comes to the configuration of the washroom, it is no longer about bathing there, using the toilet there and washing the hand basin there – job done – the design of the bathroom has never been so hot.

“Possibly as a result of the lockdown, where bathing has become a kind of antidote to the conditions Covid faced us with, the time we spend in the smallest of spaces is now seen as a moment to reflect on life – a good place to relax while the process of washing not only works on a practical level but also feeds our desire for holistic things, ”he added.

Meanwhile, trends and pop culture expert Nick Ede told FEMAIL that the trend will soon be seen across the UK.

“The wallpapered bathroom trend is growing in popularity in many households across the country,” he said.

‘The style can be seen in popular upscale club clubs like Annabel’s, where the toilets are famous for their opulence, and also in hotels like The Dorchester and Rosewood.

‘There’s a touch of Hollywood to this trend too – many of the most famous homes have sprawling bathrooms with decorative wallpaper, and the greens and pinks are reminiscent of the iconic Palm Hills Hotel wallpaper and pink paint job.

Gone are the days of wet rooms with mild tiles and exaggerated lights and patterns.

“Shows like the big challenge in the field of interior design are getting people more and more enthusiastic about their home. With the new changing rooms that are returning on Kanal 4, the trend towards posh loos will continue for many years.”

Would you like to renovate the bathroom in lockdown? Interior designer Benji Lewis offers his top tips

Interior design expert Benji Lewis told FEMAIL that the bathroom has “never been hotter”.

“Often viewed as the space that deserves the minimum amount of attention – both in terms of design and budget – if ever there was a space that had been given any serious thought it would be the bathroom,” said the bathroom he.

“When it comes to the configuration of the washroom, it is no longer about bathing there, using the toilet there and washing the hand basin there – job done – the design of the bathroom has never been so hot.

“Possibly as a result of the lockdown, where bathing has become a kind of antidote to the conditions Covid faced us with, the time we spend in the smallest of spaces is now seen as a moment to reflect on life – a good place to relax while the process of washing acts not only on a practical level but also feeds our desire for holistic things.

“It pays to take the time to create a good layout for your sanitary ware when it comes to planning your space, and I recommend looking at this like any other room.

“An area for undressing, in a place where the bathrobe can be hung or draped. Try to take this into account near the shower or bath so you don’t walk around the room dripping wet. I love a chair in a bathroom, so smart, even better when you can add a side table and put a lamp on it and add your scented candle.

‘On this subject, consider two or even three lighting circles in your bathroom; a dimmable circuit for the ceiling lighting (good for cleaning), one for wall lights on either side of the mirror above the sink and finally – if there is space – a circuit for the aforementioned table lamp.

“Loos should be discreetly hidden, and if you’re sharing the bathroom with a partner, try to allow for two sinks.

“Allow a heated towel rail, but do not put it on the same circuit as the central heating. In the summer, keep in mind that you might want a warm towel, but not a fully centrally heated room.

“Underfloor heating is a nice thing that you can incorporate into your bathroom. Winter is a brutal time of year, and the feeling of a warmed floor under your feet can help mitigate the blow of an early start in the dark.

‘Colored suites and heavily patterned wallpaper in bathrooms are very trendy. Popular prints are panoramas – nature scenes offer an opportunity for a moment of visual escape.

“In hardware, we’ve long stuck to the idea that stainless steel is the only finish, and in recent years it’s been a pleasure to see the return of polished brass and bronze components.

“Mirrors are clearly an integral part of the bathing process. They are always great for bringing in borrowed light and creating the illusion of a larger space. I wouldn’t skimp on how I use these.

“Don’t include the use of a mirror for a single circle hanging over the basin. Look at panels at full height. They are fantastic for making things glamorous and if you are worried about what you might see when you look inside, embrace your inner ’70s and use a smoked glass.
