KANSAS CITY (KSNT) – Persistent rain over the past few days has flooded basements for many in the northeast Kansas area, and that has left plumbers on the run.
These plumbers will tell you that prevention is key.
Keith Ford, operations manager at APW Plumbing, said the company receives the most three calls in rainy weather: faucet problems, water heater malfunctions, and faulty sump pumps.
The latter is a problem that many homeowners don’t know can be a huge problem leading to flooded basements.
“It’s sad because you run into houses. The basements are soaked, “said Ford.” People are stressed and they should be. “
He said prevention is important to making sure your home stays dry in wet weather.
Make sure your sump pump is clean and have an extra pump ready to swap out quickly if needed. He said this could help homeowners make sure they aren’t stuck in their basement with a mess.
Another tip, Ford said, is to add a few gallons of water before the season starts to make sure the sump pump is working before it’s too late. Homeowners should also inspect their homes before the rainy season begins, although it can be quite expensive.
