How to overhaul your bathroom – the Easter DIY project you can easily do this weekend

Interior designer Jane Rockett, co-founder of the Rockett St George homeware brand and author of the interior design book Extraordinary Interiors, shares her modern bathroom ideas and suggestions for what to do over a weekend to give your space a makeover. Jane has long been a leader in decorating – more often than not with the wow factor and drama – and all of the tips are within easy reach and can add instant refreshment to a tired looking bathroom just in time for spring.

“Never underestimate the power of a beautiful bathroom to lift your spirits! The bathroom is possibly one of the more practical areas in your home. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t be creative and design a unique and beautiful space to enjoy, ”says Jane.

Be brave … and paint the ceiling

Color can change the mood in any room and is a wonderful way to showcase your personality and individual sense of style. Jane explains, “Bathrooms often feel cold and unimaginative in bold white tones. So don’t be afraid to be brave in this room! Smaller spaces like bathrooms can easily handle dark color palettes or more vibrant hues, and experimenting with your color choices can build your confidence elsewhere, ”says Jane.

“I always think that dark and dramatic colors look brilliant in the bathroom. In this bathroom, for example, a bold black and cream-colored wallpaper creates a feeling of cosiness, luxury and size. Painting the bathroom ceiling a rich black or dark blue creates the feeling of looking up at the night sky. Not only is this amazing for enhancing your sense of space but also enhancing the relaxation of lying in the bathroom with a glass of wine! ‘

Change your faucets, change the mood

The best bathroom faucets and door handles are a great way to instantly change and update the feel of a bathroom. “Something as simple as updating your faucets or door handles to tie your wallpaper or color choices together can make a big impact on the cohesive feel of a space,” says Jane.

“While changing the sink, bathtub, shower or toilet costs time and money, smaller fixtures like faucets, towel rails, toilet roll holders, hooks and shelves are much easier to reach and expensive. Here, for example, with a Midas touch, faucets lift a white washbasin to another level of style.

Imagine the storage as independently decorative

The best bathroom storage ideas are not only a practical decorative and design feature, but they can also be a pretty and aesthetically eye-catching feature. Jane tells us, “Once the walls and furnishings are updated, it’s time to turn your attention to the finishing touches. If your bathroom needs more storage space, wall cabinets are great for debugging and finding a place for all the everyday things that you don’t want to show. Natural woven or striped storage baskets, like this one neatly tucked under the sink, are also incredibly useful as they are one of those handy additions that look great on display too. A strip storage basket can be attractively hung on a hook on the wall so that toiletries and makeup are not visible. “

Extend the feeling of space with a mirror

The fairest design trick of them all? A mirror on the wall. This is one of the fastest and most effective ways to transform a bathroom space.

Jane says, “While mirrors are essential from a practical standpoint, adding a mirror to a small room is the ultimate interior design trick. Especially useful as a small bathroom idea: if you put a mirror on the wall, the light will be reflected in the room to create a brighter and more spacious atmosphere. To maximize all storage options, many mirror designs offer dynamic shelf space that can be transformed into a gorgeous style for your favorite bathroom luxury.
