‘I haven’t got much sleep’: Plumbers working long hours to help repair burst pipes after Texas winter storm

“I don’t have much sleep, my phone keeps ringing … and there aren’t enough of us to fix it all,” said Tyler Murray, a Wylie plumber.

DALLAS – Plumbers across the state work overtime as the state recovers from historic winter storm.

“I don’t have much sleep, my phone keeps ringing … and there aren’t enough of us to fix it all,” said Tyler Murray, a Wylie plumber.

Murray snapped a photo of a handful of cracked copper pipes that he has been replacing since the ice began to melt.

“I haven’t slept much, my phone won’t stop ringing,” said Tyler Murray, a journeyman plumber from #Wylie. “There aren’t enough of us to fix everything,” he continued.

“I know personally with my company that we are now three months behind. We’re so busy that it’s ridiculous, ”he continued.

So what are you doing while you wait? If you have a leak, cut off the water and do your best to assess the damage. Some homeowners use these handheld moisture meters – if a pipe breaks, you can see if water is leaking from behind a wall or under a floor.

However, in most cases, when a pipe has burst, you’ll know right away.

“It will come through the ceiling or you will see evidence on the floor. There is nothing you can do to prevent this from happening. That’s the big deal, ”said commercial plumber Duane Mach.

He advises clients to look out for unusual things, swell wooden floors, and spot signs of moisture.

“You will see signs, this is the big deal. Take care of the inside of your home. If you see a wet spot that isn’t there by chance, it’s because moisture is growing, ”he continued.

Moisture can mean mold in some situations – and that’s why experts recommend calling your insurance company as soon as possible.
