Kitchen Theatre Company Gears Up For Its Third Annual LIP SINK Spring Fundraiser

The Kitchen Theater Company has announced that it is bringing its Lip Sink Spring Fundraiser, an annual tradition dating back to 2017, online as a music video competition.

The virtual event, produced by KTC Line Producer Ellen Jackson, will aid the theater’s return to live performance, starting with an opening ceremony on April 17th at 7pm and ending with a closing ceremony on May 8th at 7pm.

“We love seeing the many creative, fun, and inspired expressions people make, and all for the love of KTC! We are excited to put this special event online this year,” said Jackson. “The virtual space allows us to hear from more KTC favorites (who may not live in Ithaca) and get more people involved in the fun spirit of a little friendship contest. We can’t wait to see everyone there.”

The opening ceremony will be held on Zoom and will introduce the attendees and kick off the fundraising cycle with a champagne toast. Then, each participant’s original lip-syncing video will go live on CauseVox, the kitchen’s peer-to-peer donation platform. There, viewers have the opportunity to view each entry and donate to get their favorite artists to the top. Special prizes, incentives, and appearances will also be introduced throughout the competition. The fundraising cycle ends with Zoom at the graduation ceremony to crown the winners, give prizes, hear from special guests, and celebrate much-needed donations for KTC.

“This will be so much fun!” said David Winitsky, Interim Producing Artistic Director. “These music videos keep the performance spirit of KTC’s Spring Fundraiser alive and bring much-needed funding. Plus, the teams are fantastic and the videos will be a pleasure to watch.”

Lip Sink will directly support the return of the kitchen to live performances with the outdoor production of SHAPE by Kara-Lynn Vaeni, which will air in Washington Park in the West End from June 6-27, 2021. SHAPE offers a fun and honest look at a woman’s journey to discovering her own strength and power.

The kitchen also offers “Lip Sink Party Packs” for those who either want to start the opening event with the aforementioned toast or who want to support the theater and not be able to attend the event. The baskets will be filled with items and promotions from local vendors, notably Ithaca Bakery, Emoticakes, and Red Feet Wine Market. Each pack, while worth over $ 75, sells for $ 50 with the option to add an additional $ 15 delivery service.

“We are so grateful to be part of such a wonderful and supportive community.” says Connectivity Associate, Marissa Accordino. “Both our local partners and our customers have continued to guide us through an unprecedented season and because of their repeated generosity we look forward to more important conversations taking place at The Kitchen.”
