Local plumber encourages residents to prepare for flooding | News

The First Warn5 forecast calls for a lot of rainfall for the next few days, and many residents may experience some problems in their homes and businesses.

“We’re usually busy every day, especially when it rains,” said Aaron Gross, owner of Pro’s Plumbing and Sewer.

He expects to receive service calls from homeowners this week about sewage backups and sump pump issues. Gross said it was time to prepare before the clouds open.

“I would recommend probably making sure you have a water or battery backup. So you have a different type of protection than your primary one. Because if your primary goes down or you have a power outage, there’s nothing running your sump pump, ”said Gross.

Gross showed TV5 a swamp pot. He said when testing the sump pump, the water level should not exceed the drain tile line. That’s the circle you can see on the screen.

Gross said if the sump pump starts with water over the drain tile, the pump will never keep up. The sump pump must be activated below the drain tile line.

While testing your sump pump and making backups are good ideas, Gross said that making sure you know if they have stopped working is a must.

“I usually recommend the Wi-Fi alarm because when their primary sump pump fails or fails, a lot of people have no idea that it is down. And then they may be running a water reserve if they have one, no idea they’re even using that, and then at some point it could fail. That way you have some kind of protection and a kind of notification when you have a problem with your primary pump, ”said Gross.
