Local plumbers break down risk of water heaters

MARION (WSIL) – According to a local plumber, water heaters that start a fire are quite uncommon.

Litton Enterprise and Good Guys plumbers say that News 3’s water heaters really don’t require much maintenance other than an annual inspection.

Heaters are usually set to 120 degrees, but say that even when the heat is high, the likelihood of a fire is small.

“I’d say fire? Probably not likely. Overall, they’re pretty safe. If they go out, maybe turn off the breaker. If you know it’s bad, turn off the breaker. They generally last about ten years or something, “said plumber Tyler Byrnes.

Water heaters are usually gas or electricity controlled.

If you think something is wrong, turn off the water heater until it can be checked.
