Luria: Pipe bomb reported outside Washington office, can hear ‘what sounds like multiple gunshots’

WASHINGTON – As Congress began confirming Joe Biden’s presidential election victory, protesters filled the streets outside the U.S. Capitol, and Congressman Elaine Luria said at least some of them tried to force their way into the building.

Luria, a Norfolk Democrat, shared the information in a tweet. She also said she had to evacuate her Washington office outside of a report of a pipe bomb. Luria added that she could hear “what sounds like several shots”.

The Congresswoman added to the original tweet, writing, “I do not recognize our country today, and the members of Congress who supported this anarchy do not deserve to represent their fellow Americans.”

I just had to vacate my office because a pipe bomb was reported outside. Supporters of the President are trying to force their way into the Capitol and I can hear what sounds like several shots. (1/2)

Shortly after the verification process began, Republicans filed their first appeal against the election results by challenging the results in Arizona. The debates in each chamber of Congress ended quickly because of the situation in the Capitol.
