Man arrested after distributing septic tank waste on a 3 to 4 km road

Gardaí has ​​arrested a man for an alleged violation of the Waste Act 1996 after allegedly dumping septic tank waste along a street.

According to the Tipperary County Council, Gardaí in Cahir, in the south of the county, received a report on March 10 about the possible disposal of contents from septic tanks along a road over a distance of 3 km to 4 km.

Gardaí from the municipal police met with locals and identified the affected areas.

The area where this is supposed to have taken place is a public area. It is close to a school and is a place where walkers and cyclists are frequent.

Tractor and slurry tanker identified

An operation was performed and a suspicious tractor and slurry tanker were identified.

On the evening of March 25th, Gardaí arrested a man aged 60 in Cashel. He was taken to Cahir Garda Station and imprisoned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He was later released and a file is being prepared for the prosecutor.

Tipperary County Council officials visited the scene to conduct an inspection. The district council emphasized that the improper disposal of such materials “can have drastic effects on humans, animals and the environment”.

The district council has asked the public to contact Gardaí or their local council if they suspect violations of the waste management law.
