Man tried to kill friend with kitchen knife, cut second person in struggle over phone, cops say

A Hamilton man stabbed a friend in the neck with a kitchen knife during an argument early Sunday in an apartment on the 200 block off Wert Avenue, police said.

30-year-old George Kinczel was still at the scene when officers arrived at 5:30 a.m. and were called by someone in the apartment. Kinczel said a black man named Tyreek injured the victim and fled on foot, police said in court files.

But the victim was conscious and pointed to Kinczel as his attacker. The officers found him near a sink where they found the knife he allegedly used.

Officials also learned that Kinczel cut the hand of a second person while fighting over a cell phone the victim used to call police, a detective wrote in court files. The victim and a third person also identified Kinczel as the perpetrator, the police said.

The first victim suffered a life-threatening wound that required emergency surgery. The second victim suffered an injury that required sutures, police said.

Hamilton police did not say what started the dispute.

Kinczel is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, related gun charges, and obstructive concern on charges that a man named Tyreek committed the crime. He remained in detention on Monday, awaiting a court appearance.

Hamilton Detective Nicholas Schulte is the lead investigator.
