Mercedes-Benz Unveils a 2022 Citan Micro Camper With Bed and Kitchen – Robb Report

The new Mercedes-Benz Microcamper is small, but that doesn’t make it any less powerful. It’s only three feet tall and filled to the brim with all sorts of high-end features to add a little more luxury to your off-road trips.

The mini RV is actually a reef on the brand’s next-generation Citan Tourer, which debuted just two days ago. A prototype of the new design will premiere at the Caravan Salon 2021 in Düsseldorf, which opens on August 28, but Mercedes has just given the world a preview.

The whole concept is geared towards flexibility. The Citan works with two innovative “furniture modules” that were created in collaboration with the VanEssa camper experts. The modules are easy to assemble or dismantle and transform the everyday van into a micro camper in no time at all. Think of it as the minivan’s transformer.

The kitchenette is equipped with a gas stove, sink, refrigerator and plenty of storage space.

The first module is a kitchen unit that weighs in and can be fitted to the rear of the van in just a few minutes. Like a small household kitchen, it’s outfitted with all of the necessary cooking utensils and appliances, including a built-in gas hob, sink with a 3.4-gallon water tank, and a refrigerator. It can also hold dishes, glasses, pots, pans and pantries. Mercedes says you can also customize the kitchenette in different colors to spice things up.

The second module transforms the rear of the van into a makeshift bedroom. With a wingspan of 3.8 x 6.2 feet, it has a quality mattress that is big enough for two people. When not in use, the sleeping module can be stowed in the trunk directly above the kitchen unit. This means that you can still use the rear seats of the van.

Of course, the Citan 2022 has the latest MBUX infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen as well as a semi-autonomous driving system with blind spot warning, active lane keeping function and more. It is powered by a 1.5-liter diesel and a 1.3-liter gasoline engine, but a fully electric eCitan is also in the works.

“The travel and leisure vehicle market is becoming more and more important for us as part of our strategic orientation. This also applies to the brand new generation of our Citan, which is an ideal base vehicle for converting small cars, ”says Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Vans. “That is why we chose the Caravan Salon for its first trade fair appearance. Together with VanEssa we show what camper qualities it has. “

The new Citan is scheduled to hit the market in 2022.
