Michigan plumbers flush with business on day after Thanksgiving

LANSING, Michigan (WILX) – Black Friday is a busy day for retailers and shoppers, but it’s the busiest day of the year for plumbers.

But the plumbing industry got its name for the day after Thanksgiving, and local plumbers said they were a huge hit.

Rick Leddrmann of Roto Rooter Plumbing and Drain Service said his team spends the day after Thanksgiving each year fixing endless plumbing disasters.

“It’s a really busy day for us, traditionally the tradition that nobody wants is a secured toilet for Thanksgiving, but we get a lot of commercial calls from Black Friday stores, restaurants are busy today, so yeah, it turns out.” found out that it is Brown Friday, ”said Ledermann.

He said the day was so busy on them that they had to plan months in advance.

“We talk about it all November, we talk about Brown Friday. We’re talking about the fact that it’s a busy day, we have to come in, ”said Ledermann.

He said many of the problems that require them can be avoided in the bathroom and kitchen.

“Just because it fits in your garbage disposal doesn’t mean it should. The real problem is that the garbage disposal can handle it, but the drainage pipe underneath is not big enough for the amount of solids that flows down at once, ”said Ledermann.

Ledermann recommends a so-called batch feeding method, in which only a small part of the waste disposal is disposed of. This can avoid common garbage disposal problems.

But when it comes to the bathroom, he says the right shape is everything – and he talks about immersion.

“Contrary to what one would think, it’s not about pushing the garbage through,” says Ledermann. “The goal is actually to get a good seal, pull it up and push it out again.”

He also said that if your toilet overflows, you can put the flap in the tank to avoid further overflow.

However, when in doubt, it’s still safer to put the plunger down and pick up the phone.

“The most important thing is to call a specialist. This requires a certain level of professionalism as we are dealing with a dirty substance and you don’t want anyone in your house who may not be trained to deal with such things properly. “
