Midland county helping families foot the bill of septic tank flushings

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas – A new program from Midland County solves the Garcia family’s biggest problems.

Emergency management has combed flood-hit areas and gone door-to-door this week to log people in.

They visited the Garcia on Wednesday.

“They asked me if my septic tank was full from the flood and I had to call my father because I didn’t really know, but they told me that if we ever checked our septic tanks, so would our neighbors, when it was full , just give them a call and they would empty it because they said the county would pay for everything, ”said Blanca Garcia, the flood victim.

It turns out that it is flooded and needs to be fixed. The same goes for the Garcia’s neighbors.

“I’m very proud of the county for doing this for us … I think it was the worst flood we have ever seen here,” said Garcia.

The Garcias live in South Midland County, one of the areas hardest hit by last month’s storms. Several centimeters of water stood in and around people’s houses for days.

The water has receded and the land is now mostly dry. The cleanup continues.

“It’s not just about thinking about the people inside the city but also outside the city, which is a great opportunity to help them too,” said Garcia.
