Singh spoke to CMC Commissioner Ananya Das and instructed her to distill the city’s sewers before the onset of monsoons. He visited stations 14, 18 and 19 on Thursday to check the soil situation.

Accompanied by CMC engineers and local political leaders, Singh himself inspected the state of the drains by sticking sticks in them. To his surprise, he found 3 to 4 feet of mud in most of the drains. Annoyed by the apathy of the bourgeoisie, he confronted the engineers who accompanied him.

On May 19, Singh had a detailed discussion with the CMC representative about the persistent waterlogging problem in the city. He had insisted on speeding up the desludging and sewer repair work so that the work could be completed before the onset of the monsoons. However, since the CMC did not carry out the desludging work properly, waterlogging occurred in several parts of the city after rainfall over the past two days.
