Panacea Area Water System customers under mandatory boil water notice

PANACEA, Florida (WTXL) – The Panacea Area Water System has issued a mandatory notification of boiling water to all customers until further notice.

The notice comes when samples from the water system were found to have been found in drinking water on April 7th, the company said in a press release.

Further testing was done and although no other E. coli bacteria were found, they tested positive for total coliform bacteria.

The water system says this is to protect the public and does not necessarily mean that the system did not work properly.

PAWS says they are working with local agencies to identify the original cause.

Tips for boiling water:

  • Do not drink the water without boiling it first
  • Bring all of the water to a boil, boil for a minute and let cool before adding or using bottled water
  • Until further notice, boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice cream, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing meals
  • Cooking kills bacteria and other organisms in the water
  • When bathing or cleaning, avoid getting water in your nose or mouth
