Irish Water promises to provide a more reliable water supply to homes in Belturbet over the next year, with work on upgrading the water pipes to begin shortly.

Around 300 meters old, leak-prone water and backyard pipes made of cast iron are being replaced by modern pipelines.

The work will take place along St. Mary’s Terrace and Martin’s Row in Belturbet.

Irish Water will commence work on St. Mary’s Terrace in the coming days in partnership with Cavan County Council and once that is complete work will begin on Martin’s Row.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of January 2022.

The new pipes will not only reduce disruptions for customers from bursts and failures, but also the amount of clean water that is lost underground. The water quality is improved and savings are made in the operation and maintenance of the network.

Declan Cawley, Networks Regional Lead with Irish Water, outlined the benefits of the work: “This essential work will strengthen and strengthen the water network in Belturbet. Delivering to customers will have an immediate positive effect. “

There may be brief interruptions to the water supply in the areas and there will also be traffic management systems in place.

However, the project team says they will ensure that customers are notified at least 48 hours in advance of scheduled water disruptions and that work areas are limited to short sections to minimize the impact.

By the end of 2021, the National Leakage Reduction Program will invest € 500 million in reducing leakage across the country by repairing and replacing old and damaged water pipes. According to Irish Water, this will ensure a safe and reliable water supply that is vital to our health, our environment and our growing population and economy.
