The College of New Jersey is currently seeking an experienced full-time Plumber/Steam Fitter for its Facility Plumbing Shop to perform various types of work including preventive maintenance and inspection of all plumbing and steam fitting related systems and equipment, replacement and lubrication of Parts, as well as the cleaning and adjustment of components.

Main Responsibilities:

Provides preventative maintenance for all plumbing/steam fitting related systems and equipment. Inspects systems and equipment to determine what action is required. Replaces parts as needed; lubricates parts as needed; and cleans and adjusts components as needed. Reports any deficiencies to supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

Three (3) years extensive experience in the installation, inspection, repair and maintenance of plumbing and steam fittings, fixtures, machinery and plumbing services.

Appointments are required to hold a New Jersey driver’s license only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is required to perform the essential duties of the position.

Responds to emergencies and other situations that may require the intervention/presence of personnel knowledgeable of plumbing/steam plumbing systems and equipment, both during and outside of normal working hours, including weekends, on-call duty, and emergency response.

Knowledge of the methods and problems associated with the inspection, repair, installation and maintenance of water, drain, waste and gas lines, radiators, toilets, sinks, urinals, showers, bathtubs and other types of plumbing and steam installation devices and/or systems .

Ability to inspect, install, repair and/or maintain all types of plumbing and steam installation equipment and/or systems including fittings, fixtures, equipment and machinery in a variety of circumstances.

Ability to analyze plumbing and steam installation work, organize assigned work and develop effective working methods to complete assigned work; Ability to understand, remember and carry out oral and written instructions and tasks and ability to keep simple records of materials used, work completed and time expended.

Ability to work with wrought iron, cast iron, butt welded, earth, asbestos, composite and copper tubing.

Ability to efficiently and safely perform plumbing and steam fitting repairs and associated plumbing and steam fitting jobs using standard plumbing tools and equipment as well as other specialized tools and machinery including but not limited to pipe cutters, caps and dies , pipe threaders, soldering tools, various types of wrenches, saws, gauges and valves.

Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Must respond to after-hours service calls.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of three (3) years of plumbing and steam installation work in an institutional setting (eg, higher education, school district, hospital).

Successfully completed vocational training or vocational training.

Experience in higher education.
