Plumbers Play Vital Role Behind the Scenes of COVID-19

While first responders on the front lines of COVID-19 save lives, many behind-the-scenes workers play an important role.

From fixing clogged drains to repairing leaky lines to installing medical gas lines, the problems for plumbers continue to mount during the pandemic.

“It is now time to take it for granted,” said Dustin Griffin, co-owner of Fonseca and Griffin Plumbing and Mechanical. “Someone could be sent home from the hospital that day where they are infected and then their water heater will go out. Well, someone has to go in and make their water heater.”

Griffin and his team provide services to homes, businesses, hospitals, and nonprofits such as Clear Path for Veterans. They work hard to keep everyone safe and face their own challenges.

“The strangers, really,” said Griffin. “You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. Lots of people sent home with COVID, you know; what their symptoms were. Apart from that, really PPE, rubber gloves, boots. “

You also have to handle increasing calls with fewer employees – sometimes in 20-hour shifts. But Griffin says someone has to do the job and calls themselves the drain doctor.

“You don’t just choose your plumber, you choose your plumber like a doctor,” Griffin said. “We come in, diagnose the problem, and take care of the problem.”
