Plumbers should be high on list for vaccine

Like everyone else, I am very happy and relieved that the COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed in the US. I am also excited to see that our first responders and primary care professionals are vaccinated first, followed by nursing home patients and staff, and then the elderly. Unfortunately, I think there are some other key workers who should come next that have been overlooked.

Members of my family are licensed plumbers and have worked in people’s homes every day. They are there to address emergencies and necessary repairs to essential equipment to meet the health guidelines that we all must follow. This is a very important part of keeping the virus from spreading down. These plumbing professionals spend time in numerous homes every day and still go home to their families at the end of the day. They have also worked in restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc. They are important workers, as are the people who work in public utilities like water and sewage.

I believe these workers should be next on the list of the first to get the vaccine, especially since we know that the COVID-19 virus has been shown to be in feces and of course we need water to maintain any level Health.

I feel the need to talk about it because these workers are the invisible people who make our everyday life work the way we want and need it. Let’s show some appreciation for the essential work they are doing.
