Plumbing Manufacturers International Applauds House Budget Bill Supporting Continued Funding of EPA’s WaterSense Program

WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE) – Plumbing Manufacturers International (PMI) expressed its appreciation to the House Appropriations Committee, which on July 10 approved a draft funding for fiscal year 2021 that includes a language that supports the EPA’s WaterSense program and directs the agency to terminate the program continue to finance at the established levels.

Kerry Stackpole, CEO / Executive Director of PMI, thanked the Chairman of the Committee, Nita M. Lowey (DN.Y.) and Senior Member Kay Granger (R-Texas) and the Home Funds Subcommittee on Home Affairs, Environment and Related Agencies, Betty McCollum (D-). Minn.) And ranking member David Joyce (R-Ohio) for their continued bipartisan support for this successful water saving program that is critical to consumers, manufacturers, states, cities and utilities. “WaterSense has proven to be a model for an effective public-private partnership program,” said Stackpole. “Toilets, shower heads, bathroom fittings and other products with the WaterSense label are still popular with consumers.”

Managed by the EPA, WaterSense is a voluntary consumer product program that promotes water efficiency. Products with the WaterSense label meet high standards of performance and use at least 20 percent less water than products that meet federal water efficiency standards.

The program has saved 4.4 trillion gallons of water and $ 87 billion in water and energy bills since it was launched in 2006. According to the latest WaterSense Accomplishments Report, there are more than 34,000 WaterSense sanitary product models available.

PMI and its members met with dozens of members of Congress to highlight the benefits of the WaterSense program. PMI supports a similar reporting language in the Senate. WaterSense received Congress approval and codification in 2018. Having a legal program is key to sustaining this important initiative and providing security for the program and its participants. In 2017, the EPO Inspector General’s report found that consumers saved an estimated $ 1,100 for every federal dollar spent on the program.
