Replacing a Defective Water Heater With a New One is a Disaster

There are plenty of people who are the do-it-yourself types who try to fix pretty much anything even if they’re not sure where to start.

For example: ME

My home water heater just broke about a week ago and it’s only been a disaster since I took on this extremely difficult project.

So instead of calling a plumber and spending thousands of dollars on the repair, I decided to google everything about water heaters.

Let me paint this whole picture for you:

1. Half of my basement was soaked in water because my old water heater was really starting to leak. There was water everywhere.

2. I had to use my wet and dry vacuum cleaner to soak up the standing water. This took about three or four days because of the leaking water heater.

3. I drive to a large store to buy a new water heater only to find it damaged when I brought it home.

4. Took it back and replaced the damaged new one with another new water heater that also had large dents. (Not happy at all at this point)

5. Took this one back and went to another large physical store and bought a third water heater that also had dents and decided to just keep it and try to install it yourself.

In the meantime I’m ready to pull the hair out of my head !!!!

I disconnected the old water heater by unplugging the gas line and turning off the water and emptying the tank completely. My son Blake helped me get the old kettle out of the basement to get rid of.

We brought the new one down and then I made up my mind “I’m done” with this project.

I currently have two fans in the basement trying to dry the water-soaked indoor / outdoor carpet.

I called a plumber and begged him to come over and plug in the new water heater in the house so I could use hot water again.

These days there are too many rules to follow when it comes to connecting a water heater and the best person to do this is a professional plumber who knows exactly what to do without my help.

I rest my case!
