Ludhiana, November 26th

Shopkeepers accused citizens of slow-paced sewer repair work after much of the street collapsed in Deep Nagar last month, and protested the Municipal Corporation on Friday.

The protesters blamed the civil authorities for the delay in work, as Dandi Swami Chowk’s path to their shops was blocked due to the work that began on October 28th. The shopkeepers said their stores were impacted due to the slow repair work.

Two students (siblings) riding an Activa scooter had fallen into a suddenly appeared crater when the stretch of road collapsed in Deep Nagar on October 28th. The MC later discovered that his old masonry sewer had been damaged. The MC then started work on laying the new sewer pipe in place of the damaged sewer pipe. The water supply lines should also be replaced by the new ones.

MC SDO Anshul Garcha denied the allegations, saying the repairs are almost complete and are being carefully carried out. “The new sewage and water supply lines have been installed. The soil compaction is carried out properly. In just three to four days, the remaining house connections would be connected and then vehicle traffic would resume, ”he said.
