Russell City Council met at City Hall on Tuesday February 2 and approved the purchase of a new truck equipped with a high pressure sewer cleaning / vacuum machine and a steerable sewer camera.

The current Russell City sewer cleaning truck is a 2000 model and is only used for emergencies as it is near the end of its life cycle. City officials looked into buying a new truck in 2013 and 2015. However, the cost of a new truck was always more than budgeted. After putting aside some of the sewage charges levied by residents for several years, the City of Russell has built enough reserves to buy a new truck. This new sewer cleaning truck has the latest equipment making it safer and more efficient for crews to clean and maintain nearly 68 km of sewer lines in the town of Russell. The purchase price for the truck and equipment is nearly $ 517,000.

The council members discussed and approved a motion calling for the owners of an unsecured property at 615 West Wichita Ave. were instructed to repair or remove the building within 90 days.

Council members also reviewed the water conservation phases and regulations due to the dry winter season and approved a fee reduction for a golf tournament hosted by Delta Mu Sorority.
