Scottish Woman’s Post About Washing Machine Exploding in Kitchen Has a Lesson for Us All

One Scottish woman was horrified when her washing machine exploded mid-cycle, destroying her kitchen. Laura Birrell, a Glasgow entrepreneur, shared the ordeal on Facebook on March 28th. The founder of Sticky Heels was sitting in her living room when the explosion happened and her kitchen blew up. Ten-year-old Idesit’s drums exploded, blowing up the top of the machine, as well as the sink, faucets, sink, and shelf.

She shared details of the disaster on Facebook and warned people not to go out and leave their machines on. She said she was glad she hadn’t gone anywhere when the machine exploded. At first she thought a “bomb went off, glass everywhere” but it was the “machine drum that exploded through the countertop and drain.”

Laura turned off the device when smoke came up.

Affected internet users commented on the post and expressed their relief that no one was injured. Many shared their own similar stories about the ordeal.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Laura said she was very scared and shocked when she thought something had crashed through the window. She added that she “had just left the kitchen and walked into the living room and sat down when she heard the explosion”. She said when she went into the kitchen it reeked of smoke and the entire sink was gone and glass was everywhere.

After sharing the pictures on Facebook, many came forward with similar tragedies when their “machines, like hers, were either broken or on fire”.

Laura briefed manufacturers of the incident, to which a hot tub spokesperson replied that they will investigate the incident, adding that they have spoken to the woman and her engineers will visit the property to understand what happened urgently. Thoughts are with the residents affected by this incident. “
