Septic tank, borehole must be poles apart, expert warns

Property owners have been asked to ensure that the septic tank and drilled borehole water are well separated on their premises to avoid contamination and regular hospital visits.

In a contribution from the Society of Testing Laboratory Analysts of Nigeria (SoTLAN), the experts found that it is common practice for developers and civil engineers to build sewer and borehole side by side in the same site, which is capable of regularly hospitalizing residents send.

In a conversation with our correspondent in the secretariat of the association in Lagos, the President of SoTLAN, Dr. Femi Oyediran that both septic tanks and boreholes or wells should be spaced apart, as the water in every building is used for many purposes, such as brushing, bathing, boiling.

“People are more concerned about the water they put in a glass beaker to drink. They did not know that the water for bathing, brushing and cooking still ends up in the body, so it must be ensured that it is high quality water. “

He urged homeowners and builders to conduct a water analysis of the water in each building to avoid diseases like cholera and typhoid.

“If the water is not tested before it is used, the result is that the quality of the water is not known, which can lead to residents of a building being hospitalized as some microbes can be ingested.

“Anyone who treats water in their residential or commercial building without testing it first does not know what to treat.

“Treatment should be after testing the water to avoid using the headache medication to treat stomach pain,” he said.
