Sewer Repair – Utilities | seattle.gov

The crews are digging after repairing the open sewer.

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) maintains over 1,200 miles of sewer pipes across the city. In order to be able to continue to offer our customers reliable sewage services, SPU maintains and rehabilitates our sewage pipes with:

  • Canal replacement
    • Point duct repairs: This work removes and replaces smaller sections of pipe that are cracked or damaged.
    • Full Pipe Replacement: These projects replace a longer section of pipe (roughly the length of a block) with a new pipe.
  • Sewer Lining: In this no-excavation work, the pipes are rehabilitated by installing a cure-in-place pipe (CIPP) that lines the inside of the existing pipe.
  • Maintenance work: SPU drainage and sewage maintenance teams respond to emergency repair requests and perform ongoing maintenance on our sewage system.

SPU is also investing in improving sewer infrastructure and drainage across the city. Please review our current and completed projects to learn more about our investments in upgrading pumping stations, reducing combined wastewater overflow, natural drainage systems, replacing creek culverts and much more.
