Snyder Septic on the Do’s and Don’ts of Aerobic Septic System Maintenance

BAYTOWN, Texas, December 13, 2019 / PRNewswire / – In addition to maintenance, aerobic septic tanks may require a change in the owner’s day-to-day use. The owners have requested a basic list outlining what routine practices should be followed to properly maintain a fully functional sewer system and avoid unnecessary costly repairs. In many cases, the new homeowner moves from a house with municipal sewers to a house with its own sewage system or on-site sewage treatment plant. Below is a list of simple practices that many homeowners may not be familiar with when using their home’s aerobic sewer system.

We offer repairs, installations and maintenance of aerobic sewage systems for all brands of aerobic systems. We are confident that we can offer you a 100% functional system at a competitive price. With Snyder Septic, installing your aerobic system is a straightforward and straightforward process. Our systems are installed by qualified professionals who are familiar with the requirements of the local jurisdiction

DOS

  • Offer ant and insect control for all system components.
  • Keep vegetation under control around the system components including the air compressor, control panel, spray heads, etc.
  • Clean the filter on your air compressor every 6 months.
  • Use septic chlorine that is approved for use in wastewater.
  • Pump out your septic tanks every 3-5 years to remove solids.

Not

  • Do not dispose of fats, fats and oils in your sewage system.
  • Do not dispose of pesticides, herbicides, or other toxins in your sewer system.
  • Do not plan a single “laundry day” for your household. Septic tanks are designed using an estimated water consumption that averages over an entire week. Using a single day to wash multiple loads of laundry will hydraulically overload your system resulting in improper treatment of your wastewater.
  • Do not flush any biodegradable items other than toilet paper. If you can’t eat it, the safest thing to do is to use the litter bin, not your toilet.
  • Do not use a garbage disposal regularly, it should be used sparingly. The increase in the amount of food waste directly affects the amount of time required between tank cleans. Imagine using the garbage disposal to treat your septic tanks like a trash can. The more you put in the garbage can, the more often it has to be emptied. It’s much cheaper to throw food waste in your trash can.
  • Do not use additives for septic tanks. These are gimmicks and should be avoided entirely. No additives are allowed when the aerobic treatment units are being tested. So it stands to reason that your system doesn’t need them.
  • Do not throw medicines or antibiotics into your sewer system.
  • Do not dispose of strong disinfectants or detergents in your sewer system.
  • Do not drain water softeners into your treatment plant without first consulting a septic tank professional. There is a right way to do this, but one wrong approach can lead to an extremely costly situation.
  • Do not use pool chlorine as a disinfectant.
