State offers septic loans – Whitman County Gazette

OLYMPIA – The state is now offering loans to homeowners to repair or replace sewage treatment plants in Whitman County.

The state environment ministry (DOE) has expanded the regional sewage system loan program nationwide and added 17 counties to this loan program, according to a spokesman.

“About a third of households in Washington use sewage treatment plants for wastewater treatment. … A failure of the sewage treatment plants can lead to sewage accumulating in the house or entering local waterways and groundwater supplies, which poses a threat to public health, “the spokesman said.

The program provides access to affordable finance for repairs or replacements of wastewater treatment plants.

Homeowners can apply on the Craft3 website. Commercial real estate and real estate not used by the user can also be qualified.

“Nationwide access to this program is a win for homeowners, public health and clean water,” said Vince McGowan, DOE program manager, water quality. “When a failing sewage system is repaired, the benefits go beyond the house. This program supports healthy shellfish and fisheries, and helps Washingtoners access to swimming beaches and recreational opportunities. “

The regional sewer system loan program has helped nearly 1,200 homeowners with $ 26.7 million over the past five years.
