Town Of Shrewsbury: Important Message From The Water & Sewer Division – Sanitary Sewer System Maintenance On June 17-18

June 16, 2021

On Thursday and Friday, June 17-18, 2021, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the contractor National Water Main Cleaning Company will carry out a cleaning and camera inspection of the sewer pipes as part of our ongoing maintenance program. The approximate area is South Street from # 375 to the intersection of Hartford Turnpike (Route 20) and Hartford Turnpike between # 727 and # 870. Please follow the link below for a map of the area where the work is taking place.

During these routine inspections, the sewer pipes are hydraulically cleaned with a pressurized water truck and a sewer nozzle and television is monitored with a CCTV camera (Closed Circuit Television Inspection). The negative pressure created by cleaning can cause air to escape through the siphons and drains of your plumbing fixtures such as toilets and sinks.

These exams are being conducted as part of the Shrewsbury 2021 Infiltration Survey Project. The aim of the investigations is to localize sources of groundwater that enter the sewer system. By eliminating this extra river, Shrewsbury will reduce the amount of wastewater sent to the Westborough regional wastewater treatment plant.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause you and thank you for your continued cooperation as we strive to improve our sewer system. If you have any questions, please contact the Water and Wastewater Department at 508-841-8502 or [email protected].
